Project Overview
The project involved the comprehensive renovation of a medical waste incineration plant located in the Coclé region for Pumper S.A., a prominent Panamanian waste management company with over 14 years of experience. The facility was upgraded with advanced technology to manage the collection, transport, and final disposal of hazardous and hospital solid waste in strict accordance with national health and environmental regulations.
The Challenge
- Regulatory Compliance: The facility needed to strictly adhere to Panamanian government standards, specifically MINSA Decrees 293 and 111 (regarding incineration and hospital waste transport) and MIDA Decree 116.
- High-Risk Waste Management: Handling diverse and dangerous materials, including toxic hospital waste, discarded pharmaceutical products, and medical documents, required a highly reliable and specialized destruction process.
- Environmental Impact: There was a critical need to improve waste management efficiency and recycling levels to minimize the environmental footprint while serving a wide range of clients from clinics to industrial complexes.
Our Solution
- Cyclone Incinerator Technology: The plant was renovated into a specialized ‘Cyclone Incinerator’ facility, optimized for the high-temperature destruction of medical waste.
- Dual-Line Configuration: Installed two independent incineration lines, providing redundancy and ensuring continuous operation.
- High-Volume Processing: Each of the two lines was configured with a capacity of 1 ton per hour, significantly boosting the plant's overall throughput.
Results
- Increased Capacity: Successfully established a robust processing capability of 2 tons per hour across two dedicated lines.
- Total Regulatory Adherence: Guaranteed 100% compliance with strict national and international health and hygiene regulations for the management of hazardous waste.
- Operational Reliability: Provided Pumper S.A. with an advanced, punctual, and high-capacity service infrastructure capable of handling large volumes of waste efficiently.
- Enhanced Biosecurity: Ensured the proper and safe incineration of high-risk medical waste, mitigating potential health risks for the local community and the environment.
